Characterizing the "driver DNA" through CAN bus data analysis

People's driving behavior is influenced by different human and environmental factors, and several attempts to characterize it have been proposed. Nowadays, the standardization of the CAN bus and the increase of the electronic components units in modern cars offer a large availability of sensors data that make possible a more reliable and direct characterization of driving styles. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is highly prevalent and is a recognised risk factor for motor vehicle accidents (MVA). Effective treatment with continuous positive airway pressure has been associated with a normalisation of this increased accident risk. Thus, many jurisdictions have introduced regulations restricting the ability of OSA patients from driving until effectively treated. Modeling accident risk at the road level through zero-inflated negative binomial models: A case study of multiple road networks

Abstract This paper presents a case study carried out in multiple cities of the Valencian Community (Spain) to determine the effect of sociodemographic and road characteristics on traffic accident risk. The analyzes are performed at the road segment level, considering the linear network representing the road structure of each city as a spatial lattice. The number of accidents observed in each road segment from 2010 to 2019 is taken as the response variable, and a zero-inflated modeling approach is considered. Conversion of Existing Roundabouts into Turbo-Roundabouts: Case Studies from Real World

Compared with roundabouts the main advantages of turbo-roundabouts are the reduction in the number of potential conflicting points and the lower speed of vehicles passing through the intersection, they both can improve safety conditions at the junction. Moreover, the physical delimitation among lanes limits the side-by-side accident risk.
